Childs' Bismark Cabbage Cabbage
This most wonderful cabbage was produced by cross fertilizing extra fine strains of Drumhead, Flat Dutch and large Drumhead Savoy, then by careful selection and saving for several years, a type was established entirely distinct, and, we believe in every respect superior to any other cabbage in cultivation. It shows the Savoy blood by dark green color and slightly wavy leaves, though not crinkled. It possesses the largest size ever attained in Drumhead or Flat Dutch, and the superb quality of the Savoy. It has a short and very small stem, consequently little waste from stem inside – much the least of any large cabbage. It has but few surplus or scraggy leaves, neither is it necessary to waste half the head by peeling off a large quantity of leaves before reaching those of eatable quality. It is most remarkable in this respect, for after removing those immediately outside and exposed, you come to ivory white, crisp, tender and delicious leaves, as in the best Savoys. It is very solid and heavy, and of quick growth, and sure to head. A year ago we saw a patch of 10,000 heads, and we couldn't find a failure in the lot, all plants that lived after setting produced a fine head. Pkt., 15c; oz., 40c; lb., $4.00
