Burpee's Bush Lima
This is the original Large Lima Bush Bean which blazed the way for the immense popularity of Bush Limas. When first introduced in 1890 it created a great sensation, and it was impossible to supply the demand for seed even at the previously “unheard of” price – four beans for seventy-five cents and not more than two packets (8 beans for $1.50) sold to any one purchaser. Little did we think then that nature would create two more wonderful novelties in bush limas. Pkt., 10c; pt., 30c; postpaid. qt., 40c; 4 qts., $1.40; peck, $2.50
Burpee's Bush Lima
This comes absolutely true from seed, and only the new Burpee-Improved is a better variety of similar type. The bushes grow eighteen to twenty inches high, of stout growth and always erect, yet branching so vigorously that each plant develops into a magnificent circular bush from two to three feet in diameter. It is an immense yielder. This is the original Dwarf Large Lima as first introduced exclusively by us in 1890. the pods and beans, however, are not so large nor are the bushes so prolific as the new and distinct Burpee-Improved. Pkt., 10c; ½ pt., 20c; pt., 30c; by mail, postpaid. qt., 40c; 4 qts., $1.40; peck, $2.50
Burpee's Giant Podded
Growing in my garden with Henderson's Early Leviathan, a picking of matured pods gathered from both varieties on the same day showing its earliness. It is larger, handsomer, more productive and better flavored than King of the Garden, which I have grown six seasons. My vines are robust and ten to twelve feet high; were set with fruit top to bottom. Our pickings have shown a few pods four beans, average five and a number six – all large handsome beans which cook soft and of most delicious flavor. Pkt., 15c; ½ pt., 25c; pt., 40c; postpaid. qt., 50c; 4 qts., $1.75; peck, $3.00
Burpee's Giant-Podded
The largest podded and heaviest cropper of all Lima Beans. The pods are truly gigantic in size, frequently measuring from seven to eight and one-half inches in length by from one and a half to nearly two incehs in width. The beans are extra large and thicker than any other Pole Lima, excepting only those of the Potato Lima type; they are invariably of finest flavor. Burpee's Giant-Podded excels all other Limas in vigor of growth. The vines grow so rapidly that they quickly cover the poles. In rich ground we would recommend planting only two or three seeds to a hill and thinning out to one plant. The pods, borne in clusters of from four to eight, stand out well from the foliage. Pkt., 15c; ½ pt., 25c; pt., 40c; by mail, postpaid. qt., 50c; 4 qt., $1.75; peck, $3.00
Burpee-Improved
This is decidedly the best bush lima in existence. It is the earliest of all bush limas, with the possible exception of the small-seeded Henderson Bush Lima. The “Burpee-Improved” was ten days earlier than Early Leviathan Pole, over two weeks earlier than Kumerle Bush and five days earlier than the new Fordhook Bush Lima ( which last variety is remarkably early for a “thick lima”). Every plant formed a perfect bush. Pods were much larger than in the original Burpee Bush, with beans considerably larger and thicker. The large green beans were simply great. It yielded better than any other bush lima. Pkt., (2 oz) 15c; ½ pt., 25c; pt., 40c; postpaid. qt., 50c; 4 qts, $1.75; peck, $3.00
Burpee-Improved Bush Lima
The pods are truly enormous in size, borne abundantly and well filled with handsome beans which are both larger and thicker than those of the popular Burpee's Bush Lima, and fully eight days earlier! It differs from the original Burpee's Bush Lima in having much larger pods, producing more beans, while both pods and beans are not only larger in size but also considerably thicker. The growth is even more vigorous, with heavier foliage. The plants are uniformly upright. Full-grown bushes measure thirty inches in height and twenty-four inches across the top. The blossom-bearing stalks are thrown well out from the foliage and the pods are borne frequently in what might be called “clusters” of from five to eight. The pods measure five to six inches long by one and one-quarter inches wide. Even when of full size the enormous beans are of the most luscious flavor. Pkt., (2 oz) 15c; ½ pt., 25c; pt., 40c; by mail, postpaid. Not prepaid, qt., 50c; 2 qt., 95c; 4 qt., $1.75; peck, $3.00
Carolina, Sieva or “Sewee” (The “Butter Bean” of the South)
These grow quickly, mature early, are immensely productive, and continue in bearing throughout the season. The vines are slender, with rather small, shiny, dark green leaves. Pkt., 10c; ½ pt., 20c; pt., 30c; by mail, postpaid. qt., 35c; 4 qt., $1.25; peck, $2.25.
Challenger
Or “Potato” Lima. Vines are very productive, but pods mature later than the large flat sorts. The pods are produced in large clusters, and average three to four inches in length; they are quite thick, containing three to five beans, the ends of which are flattened by being crowded closely together. They are of excellent flavor. Pkt., 10c; ½ pt., 20c; pt., 30c; by mail, postpaid. qt., 35c; 4 qt., $1.25; peck, $2.25.
Early Leviathan
This is the very earliest. It will not only give large lima beans earlier than any other strain, but is also extremely productive, both early and throughout the season. It is a strong grower, clinging well to the poles, and is a sure cropper. The pods differ from those of other early pole limas in being straighter and longer. The pods hang out from the foliage in large clusters and contain three or four and sometimes five large beans to the pod. Pkt., 10c; ½ pt., 20c; pt., 35c; by mail, postpaid. qt., 40c; 4 qt., $1.50; peck, $2.50
Fordhook Bush Lima
It's altogether unique! Your claim is well founded. It so far surpasses all other varieties that there is scarcely a chance for comparison. The foliage seems tropical compared with that of challenger Pole Lima, Kumerle or Dreer's Bush Lima; the bushes are a richer green color, nearly double the size, and yielding at least one-third heavier crop, while the length and width of the pods and the size of the beans are fully double. It is about two weeks earlier than Dreer's, and keeps maturing pods until cut down by frost. The pods are borne in large clusters. The beans retain their delicious, tender, and appetizing flavor throughout the season. Pkt., (2 oz) 15c; ½ pt., 25c; pt., 40c; postpaid. Qt., 50c; 4 qts, $1.75; peck, $3.00
Fordhook Bush Lima Bean
The only stiffly erect Bush form of the popular “Potato” Lima! Both pods and beans are twice the size of Kumerle (or Dreer's) Bush Lima. Bushes of stiffly erect habit, branching freely, but with all the branches held upright. The Fordhook has foliage like that of the large pole Limas; the leaves are large, smooth, and a dark rich green. The stalks that produce the blossoms are thrown out from the lateral and main stalks; the pods are borne in “clusters” of from four to eight. The pods resemble those of the Kumerle ( Dreer's ) Bush Lima, but average more than double the size. Fordhook is fully thirty-three and one-third percent a heavier cropper and, therefore, has already almost entirely displaced the Kumerle (Dreer's or Thorburn's ) Bush Lima, which we have now discarded. In season it is from four to six days earlier. The green beans, even when full size, are tender, juicy, and sweet in flavor when cooked. Pkt., ( 2 oz) 15c; ½ pt., 25c; pt., 40c; by mail, postpaid. Prices, not prepaid, qt., 50c; 2 qt., 95c; 4 qt., $1.75; peck, $3.00
Henderson's Bush Lima
This is the small-podded very early Sieva or Butter Bean of the South, growing in compact bush form. The pods and beans ( of good flavor ), being so small, involve more labor in shelling. Pkt., 10c; ½ pt., 20c; pt., 3 0c; by mail, postpaid. qt., 35c; 4 qts., $1.10; peck, $2.00
King of the Garden
A strong grower and uniformly large podded. The pods frequently contain five to six very large beans. These beans are of excellent quality, easily shelled; of large size and handsome appearance. Pkt., 10c; ½ pt., 20c; pt., 30c; by mail, postpaid. qt., 35c; 4 qt., $1.25; peck, $2.25.
Large White
This is the old standard strain. Pods and beans are of large size. Pkt., 10c; ½ pt., 20c; pt., 30c; by mail, postpaid. qt., 35c; 4 qt., $1.10; peck, $2.00
Wood's Prolific
Improved Henderson Bush Lima. The pods are ready for use a week earlier than those of Burpee's Bush Lima and the plants are immensely productive. When gathered young the beans are of excellent flavor; slightly larger than Henderson's. Prices same as for Henderson's Bush Lima.
