Bicolor
Zwaan. An increasing demand on some markets for a radish with a larger portion of white than Sparkler, has resulted in the introduction of this new type. The white extends from the tip up to the middle of the root. Upper half is a vivid scarlet, sharply marked. In shape, it is quite similar to the Sparkler strain, but has a much more attractive appearance.
California White Mammoth
Grown extensively in California; 8 to 12 inches long and 2 to 3 inches in diameter; white, solid and of good quality. A fine winter variety.
Cavalier
(Bright Scarlet Globe) Zwaan. An improved forcing type of Scarlet Globe Radish. In addition to an earlier maturity, this strain is much improved in color. This radish has a thin skin, crisp and will stand longer than most varieties before becoming pithy.
Celestial
This excellent variety is sold as Chinese White Winter. The roots are long, cylindrical, with beautiful white skin and flesh, the whitest and usually the least pungent of the winter varieties. When fully mature the roots are 6 to 9 inches long by about 2 ½ to 3 ½ inches in diameter. Blunt or stump-rooted with comparatively small tap-root. The flesh is compact and crisp.
Chartier
A beautiful long radish of a deep crimson color, shading to white at the tip. Splendid for outdoor culture. Will keep tender longer than any other variety.
Cincinnati Market
Very similar to Early Long Scarlet, Short Top Improved, but deeper red in color and remains longer in condition for use.
Comet
(Improved Round Scarlet Globe) Zwaan. There is an increasing demand for a Radish that has the same qualities of Scarlet Globe, but with round bulb, instead of olive shaped. The existing round varieties do not fill this need, as they are either too small or not enough top or are not suitable for shipping. This new variety not only will fill the bill, but will prove superior to Scarlet Globe and will remain crisp and solid when all other early Radishes have become pithy.
Crimson Giant
A round radish of exceptionally large size for so early a variety. The roots are nearly globe-shaped of beautiful crimson-carmine color and most excellent quality, often growing 1 ¾ inches in diameter before becoming pithy. It is a desirable variety for general outdoor planting and also suitable for forcing where a very large, round radish is wanted. It remains in condition a remarkably long time for so early a radish.
Early Scarlet Globe
A selected forcing strain, especially adapted for greenhouse and hot bed culture, but may be grown outdoors also with best results. The shape is a little longer than round and the color, which it holds long after pulling is very brilliant and attractive. Has a small top and is very early, being fit to pull as soon as Non Plus Ultra, but is much larger when matured. The flesh is white and tender, making it desirable for gardeners whose markets demand a large first early radish.
Early Scarlet Turnip
Deep scarlet; tender, mild and crisp; quick growing, tops small.
Early Scarlet Turnip
White Tipped. A small, round radish with small tops and of quick growth. Desirable for forcing or early outdoor planting. Crisp and tender.
Early White Turnip
A very early radish of comparatively small size. Shape indicated by its name. Skin and flesh pure white. Flavor mild, though not lacking in character. Admirable for forcing. Held in high esteem by those acquainted with it.
French Breakfast
A great favorite everywhere. The radishes are olive-shaped, often slightly thicker at the bottom than at the top, rather small and slender, and of a brilliant scarlet, with large white tip on the lower portion. They mature very quickly and the flesh is crisp, tender and mild.
Glowing Ball
Zwaan. A splendid NEW forcing radish which is a striking advance over the present scarlet forcing varieties, such as Non Plus Ultra, Fireball, etc. It has a perfect round root, small top. This radish has an unusual bright fiery scarlet-red color that will never fail to attract the attention of both the grower and consumer.
Half Long Deep Scarlet
The roots of this hardy and desirable variety are of a very brilliant, deep rich red color and half long with a somewhat tapering point; the flesh is very white, crisp and tender, and holds its juiciness well, not becoming pithy till quite overgrown.
Long Black Spanish
One of the latest as well as the hardiest of Radishes; an excellent sort for winter use. Roots of medium size, oblong, black; flesh of firm texture.
Long Brightest Scarlet
Also known as Long Cardinal. A decided improvement in both color and earliness over other varieties of this class. It is also somewhat thicker. It is ready for use about twenty-five days after planting, and continues to keep in good condition until fully grown. It has small tops and does not run to neck. In color, it is a brilliant clear scarlet with a white tip.
Long Scarlet, Short Top
This variety is a standard and excellent sort, either for private gardens or the market. The roots grow half out of the ground, are very uniform in shape, smooth and very bright red in color, and continue crisp and tender until fully matured, when they are about 6 inches long.
Long White Icicle
A handsome, long, pure white radish. Roots somewhat shorter with smaller tops than White Lady Finger and maturing a little earlier.
Non Plus Ultra
(Fireball). This is an excellent extra early forcing radish. The roots are small, nearly round and of bright scarlet color. The tops are very small. The flesh is white, crisp and well flavored. One of the handsomest of the forcing varieties.
Rose Colored China
Roots cylindrical, or largest at the bottom, tapering abruptly to a small top. Skin very smooth and of a bright rose color; flesh firm, crisp, tender and quite pungent.
Round Black Spanish
Roots round, sometimes top shaped, three or four inches in diameter; skin black, flesh white; very compact and highly flavored. An excellent sort for winter, as the roots keep a long time.
Sparkler
Half Red, Half White. The white color covers about one-half of the root, and the scarlet is an especially bright shade. This radish is very crisp, solid and sweet. One of the finest varieties for outdoor culture and one of the best to grow for the market, as well as for the home garden.
Stuttgart White Summer
Root large, often four inches in diameter, top-shaped; skin, white; flesh and crisp, and not becoming pithy until very late so that those not used as a summer radish can be stored for winter use.
White Strasburg Summer
This is proving one of the best and most popular summer Radishes grown. Both the skin and flesh ae pure white and almost transparent, and of delightful pungent taste. It can be pulled five weeks from time of sowing, or it will continue to grow without losing its fine flavor, and will remain tender longer than any other sort.
Wood's Early Frame
One of the earliest radishes grown, its small top making it very fine for forcing; shorter and thicker than the Long Scarlet and earlier. Tender, crisp and fine flavored.
Yellow Summer Turnip
Very Symmetrical, nearly round, with grayish-white skin, covered with a bright yellow russeting, thus making it very attractive. The flesh if firm, white and rather pungent.
