Allhead Early
Selected from All head Early and similar to the old variety and the season about the same. It is the hardiest of all the flat headed varieties and bred to resist a disease known as “Yellows”, sometimes called “Wilt”.
Jersey Queen
(“Yellows” resistant) An early yellows resistant strain developed by the Wisconsin Agricultural Experiment Station. May be used in place of Jersey Wakefield in yellows-infested areas. Slightly later and smaller heading than Jersey Wakefield.
Marion Market
Was originally bred up from Copenhagen Market, but differs from the latter in several respects. It takes about 10 days longer to mature than the early strains of Copenhagen and produces a much larger plant. The heads are practically round, very hardy and stand shipment well. The quality throughout is excellent, and a favorite for early Kraut. It is very highly resistant to the “Yellows” and we have seen this variety yield as high as 26 tons per acre.
Red Hollander
(Resistant Mammoth Rock Red) 100 days. A round-head, late red cabbage; very uniform, foliage purple-red, with heads becoming a deeper color with maturity. Ideal late Fall shipper and a good storage cabbage. Highly resistant to the “Yellows”.
Wisconsin All Season
Selected from All Seasons. Type similar to the old variety and the season about the same. It is the hardiest of all the flat-headed varieties. An excellent Kraut cabbage. Wisconsin All Season is known to stand unfavorable conditions of drought and hot weather unusually well. For this reason, it is a very choice variety for the home garden for late summer and early fall use. It does not burst as readily as other varieties after heading up.
Wisconsin Ballhead
85 days. Selected from Danish Ballhead and practically identical in type and season. Round, solid, compact head, short stem, blue-green foliage. Heads are smaller but more uniform than Wisconsin Hollander. Very uniform in type and maturity so that over 90 per cent can be harvested at the first cutting. 97 to 100 per cent resistant to “Yellows”.
Wisconsin Glory of Enkhuizen
75 days. Also called Resistant Globe. Selected from Glory of Enkhuizen. A fine mid-season, round-head type, maturing a few days later than Marion Market. The heads are globular, compact, small core. Heavy yielder and widely used for kraut as well as for shipping.
Wisconsin Golden Acre
55 days. Also called Resistant Detroit. Selected from Golden Acre and about 80 per cent resistant to “Yellows”. Heads are globular to slightly flattened.
Wisconsin Hollander No. 8
90 to 100 days. Selected from Danish Ballhead. The first strain of “Yellows” resistant cabbage seed released by the University of Wisconsin and now greatly improved as to type, quality and resistance to “Yellows”. Heads round, becoming slightly flattened across the top; foliage bluish green. A heavy yielder but not as uniform in maturity and size as the Wisconsin Ballhead.
