Illini
A very popular sort which grows larger than Manchu and is nearly as early. It was developed at the Illinios Experiment Station with the aim of increasing the yield both of hay and grain. Grows about six inches taller than Manchu and the pods are borne higher up on the stems. Yields up to 50 bushels of beans per acre.
Manchu
An early variety that is the leading sort in the northern states. Grows 2 ½ to 3 feet tall and ripens seed in Michigan, producing 20 to 30 bushels of beans per acre. The robust vines stand up well and are easily cut with mower or binder. Matures in about 100 days.
