It grows rapidly, bearing in abundance clusters of 3 to 6 pods of rich golden color. Pods average about 9 inches in length, exceedingly tender and entirely stringless, retaining their plumpness and tenderness long after they have attained a large size; continues to bear, if the pods are picked, until frost. Vine vigorous, climbing well and very productive, bearing its pods in large clusters; pods, green, very long, often reaching 9 or 10 inches, nearly round when young, and very crisp, continuing in use for an extended season. An extra early and very prolific sort, with showy pods, which are most excellent for snaps. Pkt. 10C; ˝ lb. 25C; lb. 45c.
Great Northern Early Valentine
One of the finest green podded snap beans grown. For snaps there is nothing superior to this variety among the green podded sorts and many prefer it to the wax varieties. We know of now stock of Red Valentine which can be compared with what we offer in uniformly high quality of pod. We have carefully tested a great many strains claimed to be improvements both in trials and in large fields, and have found none that we are willing to substitute for our fine stock which combines in the highest degree all the good qualities of the sort. Pods medium sized, round, very fleshy, crisp and tender and also extremely early. Pkt. 8C; ˝ lb. 22C; lb. 40c.
Improved Golden Wax
This vigorous growing variety yields a profusion of tender pods of a waxy appearance. The vines grow about 1 ˝ ft. high, holding pods well off the ground, thus keeping them clean, free from blight and rust. Pods are full, large, of delicious quality, and free from strings. One of the earliest and best dwarf sorts for market gardeners and family use. Pkt. 8C; ˝ lb. 25C; lb. 45c.
New Bountiful
The Bountiful is a prolific and continuous bearer, absolutely stringless, very tender and of excellent flavor. It is the first in Spring and the last in Fall. The plant is very handsome, grows thrifty, being practically rust and mildew proof. It is extremely early, earlier than any other variety of this kind; very prolific, bears continuously for weeks, and will yield edible pods late in the season from midsummer sown seed which has produced plants that are still in pod and blossom. One of the grand points of this early bush bean is its rich green pod, which is of an enormous size, broad, thick, and very long. Every one uniform in shape, meaty, high quality, and free from any tough lining. Its tender quality is retained not only when young but to maturity. In addition to the many good points of the Bountiful as a snap bean, it is most excellent shelled, after it is ripe for winter use. The Bountiful is unrivaled for the home garden, and is in great demand among market gardeners, who find that its handsome appearance and luscious quality are appreciated by their customers. Pkt. 10C; ˝ lb. 25C; lb. 45c.
New Davis White Wax
An exceptionally hardy, productive, white-seeded, wax-podded sort. Pods very long, white, straight, and handsome. When young the pods are very brittle, crisp and tender. The dry beans are kidney-shaped, clear white and excellent for baking. Best of all for shipping as snap beans. The perfect shape and fine color of the pods and the clear white seed make this one of the best sorts for canners. Pkt. 10C; ˝ lb. 30C; lb. 55c.
New Early Everbearing Black Wax
The earliest of all wax beans. We are so thoroughly satisfied with this greatly improved strain of Black Wax that we have discarded the old stock altogether, this new strain being more vigorous, and by far more productive, with a much longer, whiter and more fleshy pod. The pods are of medium length, borne well up among the foliage, are curved cylindrical, fleshy and of a clear waxy-white color with long, slightly curved points. Pkt. 10C; ˝ lb. 25C; lb. 45c.
New Eureka Wax
This is the best of the late wax podded beans. Pods long, cylindrical, crisp, tender, stringless, and of a clear yellowish, waxy-white color. As the beans mature they are excellent to use shelled green. Pkt. 10C; ˝ lb. 28C; 1lb. 50c.
New Extra Early Refugee
Earliest of the green podded kinds, furnishing a fleshy pod of fine quality. It is usually from two to three weeks earlier than the ordinary Refugee. The vines, although a little smaller, are fully as hardy and vigorous as that variety, and more upright. Pods are the same size and shape, except slightly flatter.
New Lazy Wife
A grand bean, by many considered the best general purpose pole bean. Pods wonderfully broad, thick, entirely stringless, and when fully grown are about 6 inches long, exceedingly rich, buttery and fine flavored when cooked. They are hardy, easily grown and most productive. Surpassingly fine for an early and late snap sort, also as a green or dry shell or winter bean it is unsurpassed. The seed is pure white. A splendid bean for either the home or market. Pkt. 10C; ˝ lb. 35C; lb. 60c.
New Long Season Stringless Green Pod Pole
This greatest of all pole beans combines the best qualities of its parents, namely: The Famous Kentucky Wonder and the delicious Lazy Wife. Wonderfully prolific. Continous bearer. Absolutely stringless. White seeded. Green podded. Buttery. Rustless. Extremely early. The enormous rick dark green pods which are produced in immense clusters often measure from 7 to 9 inches long, contain some, solidly meaty, of admirable form, free from coarseness, and when cooked are exceedingly tender and are of deliciously mild and sweet flavor. The dry beans are of a beautiful ivory whiteness. Pkt. 10C; ˝ lb. 30C; lb. 55c.
New Longfellow
The pods are very attractive, long straight and round. They are very fleshy of dark green color, measuring from 7 to 8 inches in length and usually contain about six seeds. The quality is of the finest, there are no strings except when pods are quite old. A very early variety and exceedingly prolific. This bean has proven one of the most profitable varieties to grow for the market. Pkt. 8C; ˝ lb. 22C; lb. 40c.
New Perfection Wax
This is one of the most highly productive varieties yet introduced. It has stood the market test and has taken its place as a standard. The color of the pods is a rich golden yellow which turns lighter as they reach maturity. The length of the pod is six inches; they are a half-inch broad, sharply pointed, and hang in great clusters. Extremely tender and brittle, with but a trace of string. In every way the New Perfection Wax is a highly satisfactory money-making bean, for it combines great productiveness with high quality. Pkt. 10C; ˝ lb. 35C; lb. 60c.
New Stringless Green Pod
Is most happily named, as it is quite unique, the only absolutely stringless green podded bean in the market. Pod is round, full, larger and straighter than most varieties. The Michigan State Agricultural College Experiment Station writes: “Plants of medium growth, pod 4 ˝ to 5 ˝ inches long, nearly round, slightly curved, light green, flesh tender and of best quality. Pods remain long in edible condition and do not become stringy. Pods larger than Red Valentine but mature a few days later. Pkt. 10C; ˝ lb. 25C; lb. 45C
North Star Snap
This is an ideal snap bean. Pods are 4 ˝ inches long, soft green, perfectly straight and round. Free from that woody inner lining of tough skin which we associate with old beans; what little string exists is not developed until pod is quite old. Flavor is most delicious. Remarkably early; ready for use days in advance of any variety of merit. Its bearing qualities are unexcelled. Pkt. 10C; ˝ lb. 25C; lb. 45c.
Northern Rust-Proof Wax
Our own original stock, unequaled in size, color and quality of pods, and superior to all others. Still continues the standard wax variety for general use. A bean that possesses all the good points of the old favorite Golden Wax, but is larger in pod and much more prolific. Handsome appearance, being of a dark, rich yellow color and of perfect shape. Of grand quality, showing no strings or coarseness even when past its best; is of tender and melting flavor at all stages of its growth. So exceedingly prolific it is not injured by bean rust. For market gardeners or private families no better variety can be planted. Pkt. 10C; ˝ lb. 28C; lb. 50c.
Red Speckled Cut Short or Corn Hill
A popular variety for planting among the corn, and thus furnishing a good crop without the use of poles. Vines medium long and never known to twist tightly. Leaves smooth and dark colored; blossoms white. Pods about 4 inches long, cylindrical and tender. Beans oblong, or nearly so, and cut diagonally at the ends, white, covered with reddish brown. Medium early. Pkt. 8C; ˝ lb. 22C; lb. 40c.
Wardwell's Kidney Wax
A most prolific variety, and is one of the earliest and most hardy. The pods are very handsome, long, straight, broad, of a delicate waxy-yellow, quite brittle and of fine quality. Can be grown with great profit in the South for early shipment to the North. Pkt. 10C; ˝ lb. 30C; lb. 55c.
Yosemite Monster Wax
Tender, stringless and of fine flavor. In value, distinctiveness and sterling worth this bean is a wonder. We would call attention to the necessity of planting this grand variety nearly twice as far apart as ordinary bush beans. The plant is so large and vigorous and the pods are so solid and pulpy that they require a great deal of light and air to perfect them. The pods frequently attain a length of 10 to 14 inches with the thickness of a man's finger, and are nearly all solid pulp, the seeds being very small when the pods are fit for use. The pods are a rich golden color, and are absolutely stringless, cooking tender and delicious. This is the coming wax bean for family and market purposes. Pkt. 15C; ˝ lb. 40C; lb. 75c.
