Black Pekin
As early as the Early Long Purple, and as large as the later varieties. Nearly round, skin black, glossy and smooth, more prolific and delicate than the old varieties. Weighs eight to ten pounds. Flesh fine-grained and white. Very desirable for market gardener's use.
D.M. Ferry & Co's Improved Large Purple
The best variety in cultivation. Fruit remarkably large, often measuring 12 inches in depth and 9 inches in diameter, and weighing 5 to 6 pounds. Skin deep purple, with occasional stripes of green about the stem. Plant hardy and stocky. Not so early as the Long Purple, but superior in flavor much larger, and of longer duration.
Early Long Purple
This is one of the earliest varieties; very hardy and productive. Fruits long and of superior quality; good for general culture.
Large New York Purple
Large, round, of excellent quality; later than the preceding, and highly esteemed in New York market.
